The Student Services Office at Waycross College administers four major tests:

  1. Institutional Scholastic Aptitude Test I (SAT)
  2. COMPASS (Placement Exam)
  3. Regents' Test
  4. College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Unless special permission is given, all participants in these examinations must be Waycross College applicants or students.

The Student Services Office also administers tests for off campus agencies or other colleges as requested.

SAT

Waycross College offers an Institutional SAT option for students attempting admissions to Waycross College and its affiliated programs. Students receive a Math score and an English which will help determine placement needs and admissions.

There is a $45.00 charge for all persons taking the SAT at Waycross College. Students must submit a registration form and payment by the deadline listed on the form.

COMPASS

This computerized Placement Exam is used to determine the appropriate levels of English and Math courses for individuals entering Waycross College. The college offers remediation or developmental studies for students with deficiencies in these areas. Students must retake and pass the COMPASS exam to exit the developmental courses.

Entering students will be notified by the Admissions Office as to if and when they need to take the COMPASS test and which parts (Math, English, or both Math and English) are required. The student will then be directed to be in contact with the Student Services Office to set up an appointment for testing. The COMPASS exam is given by appointment only! There is no charge for this test

REGENTS' TEST

The Regents' Testing program was developed to assess the reading and writing competencies of students in the University System of Georgia. Students in programs leading to the baccalaureate, Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree must pass both components of the Regents' Test as a requirement for graduation.

The Regents' Test measures literacy and writing abilities. The Reading portion of the test consists of 60 questions requiring students to use reading comprehension skills. The Essay portion of the test requires a well organized position paper, approximately 500 words in length, regarding one of four topics. Review materials and practice tests are available from Student Services, the World Wide Web or the Academic Support Center.

CLEP TESTING

The College Level Examination Program provides students with the opportunity to receive college credit by examination in academic areas in which they are proficient. Backed by the College Board, CLEP is the most respected, widely accepted credit-by-examination program of its kind. More than 4 million college students have accelerated their degree programs using CLEP--earning a degree in less time and at less cost.
