APPLYING FOR A JOB

If you are interested in a position on the web site, check the requirements for applying carefully. Requirements for applying vary from job to job. All jobs require that you complete a college application. Only completed application materials submitted, or postmarked by the deadline will be accepted and taken into consideration. The specific job announcement will tell you the requirements needed to make your application complete. All completed application materials will not be returned. HOW TO GET YOUR APPLICATION NOTICED

Here are some hints.

The Application Itself:

Direct the information that you put on the application to the functions and qualification listed on the job announcements.
Gather and submit all materials requested on the announcement. If your file is incomplete on the closing date, your application will not be considered.
Print or type your application. It must be neat and legible.
Use a blank page to explain your knowledge and experience to the job you are applying.

Other Materials:

The screening committee uses the job announcement as the basis for scoring your application materials. Therefore, address each function and qualification listed in the job announcement. Do not expect the reader to guess about how your experience relates to this specific function.
List the most important items first. List your strongest asset first whether it be background and experience or educational background. Begin with your most recent job or volunteer experiences and work backward from there.
Do not include personal information that is not job-related(age, marital status, family members, etc.) But include hobbies, experiences or other things that are directly relevant to the job functions.
Do not include a photograph.

Letters of Reference:

Letters of reference less than three years old are the most effective.
Provide the minimum number of reference letters requested.
Someone who is familiar with your experience and abilities in the recent past is the best reference.
Readers look for evidence of interpersonal skills, and other "soft skills" in the reference letters.
Share the job announcement with the writer of your references so that comments can be directed to the job qualifications and essential functions.

Transcripts:

Transcripts are required.
Unofficial copies are sufficient for the application process.
Official transcripts will be required upon hire.
Contact the colleges you attended as soon as possible in order to receive your transcripts in a timely manner.
