The
Financial Aid Office
provides assistance to students who, without such aid, would be
unable to attend college. Assistance is provided through Loans,
Grants, Scholarships and part-time employment.
Waycross College administers funds in accordance with the
philosophy that family is the primary resource for helping student
meet educational costs, and that student financial aid is available
to meet the difference between the student's potential resources
and college expenses. Waycross College utilizes the results from
the Federal Student Aid application as well as all other needs
analysis programs in determining a student's level of financial
need. The family's financial strength is taken into consideration
on the basis of gross income, number of dependents, allowable
expenses and debts, and total assets. The College considers those
applications filed before June 1 for
maximum award benefits for the following year
All
students (regardless of Federal Pell Grant eligibility) must complete
the application process to receive federal or state aid and must
apply each academic year. There are two ways to process the Federal Financial Aid Application
(FAFSA) or Renewal Application:
The
World Wide Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov (which is the fastest way
to file); and
Mail the paper application to the processing center.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
WITHDRAWAL/REPAYMENT
POLICY
When
a student withdraws from all classes in which he/she is
enrolled, federal regulations require the institution to determine
the amount of Pell Grant, SEOG and Loan funds the student earned
based on the percent of days the student completed on the
date of withdrawal. The portion of the federal funds that the
student received that were not earned may have to be repaid. Once the student completes more than 60
percent of the enrollment period, the student has earned
100% of the federal funds.
If
a repayment occurs, the school is required to notify the student
within 30 days. The student
then has 45-days from the date of the schools notification
to respond to the school. In
the event the school fails to notify the student within 30 days,
the student is allowed 45-days from the date the school was required
to send notification to the student:
1) To
repay in full the unearned funds to the Waycross College Business
Office, or
2) To
establish a repayment plan with the Waycross College Business
Office to repay the unearned funds.
A repayment plan may not exceed 2 years.
If
the student fails to comply with the above requirements, federal
law requires Waycross College to:
1)
Report to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
that the student is currently in overpayment status on a federal grant, and
2) Refer
the overpayment to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) for collection.
A repayment plan may be established with the U.S. Department
of Education. A repayment plan may not exceed 2 years.
Please
be aware that a student is not eligible to receive federal
or state educational assistance until this debt has been paid
or repayment arrangements have been made.
When this debt has been paid in full or a repayment plan
established, the student will be eligible to receive federal and
state educational assistance.
