In only its second year of existence, Waycross College’s men’s basketball team will host a first round game Tuesday night, March 1, as part of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association’s (GCAA) men’s basketball tournament.
The third-seeded Swamp Foxes (23-7, 12-6 GCAA) will face Albany Tech, the sixth seed, at 7 p.m. in the WC gymnasium.
WC split the season series with the Titans. On Jan. 12, the Swamp Foxes defeated the Titans, 71-66. Albany Tech evened the series Feb. 16, edging WC, 61-60.
The Swamp Foxes, who are currently 16-1 at home this season, finished the regular season winning two of their last three games. The biggest win was the season finale against 19th-ranked Atlanta Metro Feb. 26. The Swamp Foxes built a 32-point second half lead and cruised to a 79-60 upset of the Panthers. The win clinched WC’s place as the third seed in the tournament.
General admission to Tuesday night’s game is $5.00 with children five and under admitted free. WC faculty, staff, and students with a valid WC ID will also be admitted free.
The remaining first round games include (8) Chattahoochee Tech at (1) College of Coastal Georgia; (7) Middle Georgia College at (2) Atlanta Metro; and (5) South Georgia Tech at (4) Georgia Perimeter College.
The highest remaining seed after the first round will host the semifinals and finals March 4-5.
Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the college’s founding in 1976.
