For the second consecutive summer, Waycross College has set an enrollment record and posted a double digit increase compared to one year ago.
According to information released by the college’s admissions and records department, the final head count for summer 2010 is 721. This represents a 16.75 percent increase from summer 2009. The final number includes students at WC’s main campus as well as the Liberty Center in Hinesville.
In a semester-to-semester comparison, WC has now realized an enrollment increase for five straight semesters dating back to spring 2009.
“We are very pleased with our continued enrollment growth at Waycross College,” said Dr. David Palmer, president of WC. “While we want to believe that the inauguration of intercollegiate athletics, drama, music, and our attractive campus environment are all influential factors, it is more likely related to additional course offerings and the high quality teaching by our faculty.”
Dr. Neil Aspinwall, vice president of enrollment and student services, pointed to the work of the college’s faculty and staff as one of the biggest reasons for the college’s continued enrollment success.
“This tremendous increase is due to their tireless efforts in making sure our students/customers are given the attention needed to help them achieve their educational goals,” he said.
Aspinwall said even though the college’s enrollment continues to increase, students still receive a high standard of academic instruction in a small classroom setting complete with individualized attention provided by the college’s faculty.
“These ‘small college’ characteristics have helped ensure that the continued success rate of students who transfer from Waycross College to a four-year college or university still remains high,” he said.
Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the college’s founding in 1976.
