Frequently Asked Questions for Waycross College Bookstore

When can I sell my books back?

Textbooks may be sold back during the textbook buyback which is always held during final exams.

Where is the textbook buyback held?

The textbook buyback is usually held at the Waycross College Bookstore’s walk-up window or in the room beside the Bookstore.

Can I sell all of my textbooks back?

We arrange for a book wholesaler to buy used books. Whether or not a book is purchased is up to the buyer not the bookstore.

What are your business hours?

The Waycross College Bookstore is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Thursday and on Friday 8:00am to 11:30am during Fall and Spring Semesters. During Summer Semester, the Bookstore is open From 7:30am to 5:00am Monday through Thursday and closed on Friday.

Why can’t I purchase my books on financial aid before registration day?

There are guidelines that Waycross College has to follow concerning financial aid funds. Students are not actually eligible to receive Financial Aid until after they attend classes. If a student does not attend classes financial aid is cancelled. If a student had already charged items in the bookstore he/she would be responsible for paying for these charges. We actually are extending credit by allowing students to charge on Registration Day before attending class.

Why does the bookstore only have limited number of used books?

There are many factors that go into the decision on how many used textbooks to stock for a course. We never want to purchase more textbooks, new or used, than we think that we may need for a course. Thus, if the Bookstore already has a number of new textbooks left from a previous semester then a smaller number of used books will be purchased for resell to the students. We try to purchase used text before ordering new text.

Does the bookstore open extended hours during the beginning of the semester for night students?

The Waycross College Bookstore offers extended hours at the beginning of each semester. These hours are usually 9:00am to 7:00pm on Registration Day and from 8:00am to 6:30pm on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday following Registration Day.

How many times can I make purchases on my financial aid voucher?

Students may make as many purchases as needed while financial aid charges are being accepted. We do ask, however, that each sale amount be at least $5.

What happens to my Financial Aid balance that I don’t use in the Bookstore?

Any outstanding balances will be refunded back to the students in the form of a check at the Cashier’s window about 3-4 weeks after Registration Day. The Cashier’s window is located by the pit in the Administration Building. There is usually signs posted to alert students that financial aid overage checks are ready.

The wholesale company that was buying back books at the end of the semester would not buy my book. Why?

There are many reasons for a textbook not to be purchased back by the wholesale company. It may be that the textbook has gone into a new edition and there is no longer a demand for that edition; the company may already have their quota for this title; the book had water damage or there was excess markings in the textbook.

Why should I buy my books from Waycross College Bookstore instead of an on-line company?

You may encounter difficulties when purchasing your textbooks online. Sometimes a textbook will come in and it is not the right edition. In addition, textbooks may arrive extremely late and you might end up having to purchase another textbook elsewhere. Many times when you purchase textbooks online you will receive an “international” edition or a “desk” copy. These types of textbooks cannot be sold back during the buyback so you miss the opportunity to recoup some of your textbook dollars. You may not get all required supplemental materials.

Are all the books required for my class sold in the Bookstore?

The Waycross College Bookstore sells all of the textbooks needed for courses taught by Waycross College. We carry the required textbooks for course as well as the suggested titles for a course. If a textbook is not required then it will be clearly labeled as “suggested” not required. We encourage students to go to class before purchasing textbooks.

Why do I need to bring a copy of my class schedule with me to purchase books?

At the Bookstore, we use the course number to identify the course, class time, and Instructor and schedules have all of this information. Some instructors have different textbooks for the same class so it is necessary that we know exactly what class you are enrolled in to properly advise you on what textbook you need.

Will I use all the supplements that came with my book in my class?

You may or may not use all the supplements that came with the textbooks. Sometimes the only textbook available from the publisher comes with a “free” component such as a map, disk, web access, etc. Other times, instructors order the supplements when they place their textbook order with the Bookstore. The best thing to do is ask the instructor if all the supplements are necessary.
