New Loan & Pell Grant Information

March 18, 2010

Starting with this Summer 2010 (and for future terms), Waycross College will be participating in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan – DL) Program for all Federal Student Loans.

By participating in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program, Waycross College ensures you have guaranteed access to student loan funding. Student loan dollars for the DL program are received directly from the Federal Government. The DL Program also provides excellent borrower benefits. We also feel the DL Model is easy for families to understand. Having ONE source for student loan funds for DL reduces the confusion and complication for students and provides "one stop shopping", more timely loan disbursements and better customer service.

You will, however, need to complete a new Direct Loan Master Promissory Note if you plan to continue to borrow. This pertains to the Summer 2010 term for any loan that will be disbursed after June 30, 2010 and any future terms. Please go to https://dlenote.ed.gov/empn/index.jsp , sign in and follow instructions for completing the Master Promissory Note(MPN) for Student Loans (you will need your Federal PIN # to complete your Master Promissory Note). Borrowers will also need to complete an Entrance Counseling. You will only need to complete these documents ONCE while attending Waycross College.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office. You may utilize one of the computers located in the Financial Aid Office

Recent changes in federal regulations effective summer semester 2010 now make Pell Grants available year-round for some students. The intent of this new regulation is to encourage students to accelerate completion of their academic goals. Previously, students who attended full-time fall and spring semesters had no Pell Grant eligibility remaining for summer. With year-round Pell, students may now receive additional Pell grant funding for summer semester as long as they continue to meet the regular eligibility requirements and enroll at least half-time (6 credit hours). Receiving the additional Pell does not reduce the amount students can receive for the next academic. Final legislation is pending as of this date for Summer 2011 Pell Grant award. Final legislation will be posted once final decision is made.
