COVINGTON – Waycross College’s women’s softball team swept the Georgia Perimeter College Lady Jaguars March 31, 2-0 and 9-1, to take sole possession of second place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. The Swamp Foxes (20-10, 7-1 GCAA) are currently on an eight-game winning streak and have won 12 of their last 14 games.
“I’m really proud of our performance Saturday,” said head coach Bryan Hartley. “We played great as a team. We had good pitching, good defense, and good hitting.”
Samantha Howard pitched a shutout in game one, which included seven strikeouts. Aimee Johnson’s two-run home run provided the two runs needed to secure the win.
The Swamp Fox offense picked up steam in game two with Howard going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Johnson was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s. Summer Rose had two hits, including a double, and three RBI’s. Kylie Tierce also had two hits, a double, one walk, and two RBI’s. Rachel White rounded out the offense with two hits and one RBI.
Mandy McClendon gave up one run and no walks on the mound in the second game.
The Swamp Foxes look to extend their winning streak and retain second place in the conference when they host Georgia Military College tomorrow at the Trembling Earth Complex in Waycross. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the college’s founding in 1976.
