AMERICUS – The Waycross College Swamp Foxes ended their two-game losing streak Tuesday night, rallying to defeat the South Georgia Tech Jets in overtime, 62-55.
Trailing by 18 points with 12 minutes remaining, WC (15-6, 5-4 GCAA) began a furious run that was capped off by Darius Tookes’ three-point play with 20 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
“I’m very proud of our guys because they never stopped fighting. This was a true team victory,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.
Robert Powell led the Swamp Foxes with 12 points, eight rebounds, and one block. Four players finished with eight points each – Tookes (six rebounds), Kelcey Walker (six rebounds, four assists, two steals), Stan Maxwell (five rebounds), and Lydell Manigo (four rebounds).
WC returns home Thursday, Feb. 2 to face Middle Georgia College. Tip for the game is set for 7 p.m.
