Swamp Foxes win 1-of-4 at JUCO Showcase

Waycross College’s women’s softball team captured one win in four tries during the JUCO Kickoff Classic & Showcase held in Clearwater, Fla. this past weekend.
On the strength of a complete game shutout by pitcher Samantha Howard, WC (1-3, 0-0 GCAA) defeated Hillsborough Community College, 4-0.
In other games, the Swamp Foxes overcame a 6-0 deficit to force extra innings but lost to Brevard Community College, 10-9. WC blew leads of 11-0 and 4-0 in the final two contests, losing to St. Johns River Community College and Central Florida Community College, respectively, 13-11 and 5-4.
“We committed eight errors against St. Johns River, so we really beat ourselves in that game,” said head coach Bryan Hartley.
The Swamp Foxes travel to Albany, Ga. this weekend for a tournament at Darton College before opening their home schedule against East Georgia College Saturday, Feb. 11. The first game of the East Georgia doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
All regular season home games will be played at the Trembling Earth Recreation Complex in Waycross. General admission is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the college’s founding in 1976.
