WC drops two games in Tallahassee tournament

January 3, 2012

TALLAHASSEE – The Waycross College Swamp Foxes saw their ten-game winning streak end over the holiday break.  The team lost to Tallahassee Community College (TCC), 58-39, and to Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) in overtime, 55-52.

Both games were played during the Tallahassee Community College Classic Dec. 30-31 in Tallahassee, Fla.

Adam McLeod, who returned to action against TCC after missing six games due to an injury, led the Swamp Foxes (10-2) with nine points.  McLeod’s performance was the only bright spot for the Swamp Foxes, who struggled both from the field and at the free throw line the entire game.

“TCC played well,” said head coach Cory Baldwin.  “We had a couple of chances to get back in it and just didn’t take advantage.”

McLeod was also the leading scorer against FSCJ, finishing with 11 points.  Other scorers included Lydell Manigo (ten points), Kelcey Walker (eight points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals), Robert Powell (seven points), and Stan Maxwell (six points, six rebounds, three assists).

“I was upset with the outcome of the FSCJ game, but we fought hard and learned a lot about ourselves that can help us during conference play,” said Baldwin.

The Swamp Foxes will now begin defense of their GCAA conference title this Saturday, Jan. 7 at home against Gordon College.  Tip for the game is set for 7 p.m.  General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.

Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the college’s founding in 1976.
