WC dominates Atlanta Sports Academy

December 19, 2011

Having two starters and a key reserve on the bench didn’t stop the Waycross College Swamp Foxes from dominating their tenth straight opponent.

Led by Andrew Lawrence’s 21 points and eight rebounds, the Swamp Foxes (10-0) cruised to a 94-21 win over the Atlanta Sports Academy Spartans Dec. 17.

Other top scorers included Robert Powell (16 points, 12 rebounds), Stan Maxwell (11 points, three assists, and three steals), and Lydell Manigo (ten points, eight rebounds).

The Swamp Foxes were already without Adam McLeod and KeShaun Mayfield for the game due to injuries.  Kelcey Walker also didn’t play.  Head coach Cory Baldwin praised Keldrick Davis (12 rebounds, four assists) for filling the void left by the three players.

“Keldrick really stepped up tonight,” said Baldwin.  “His stats may not be as glaring as some others, but his leadership today was key to our victory.”

The Swamp Foxes also had their best game at the free throw line and on the boards so far this season.  The team shot 82 percent from the free throw line (31-for-38) and grabbed a total of 66 rebounds.

WC will take a break for the Christmas holiday before ending its non-conference schedule on the road.  The Swamp Foxes will play Tallahassee Community College and Florida State College at Jacksonville Dec. 30-31 in the Tallahassee Community College Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.

The team will return home Jan. 7 to open its conference schedule against Gordon College.  Tip for the Gordon College game is set for 7 p.m.  General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.

Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the college’s founding in 1976.
