Cory Baldwin, athletic director and head men’s basketball coach at Waycross College, has announced the addition of Ty Anderson to his coaching staff. Anderson will serve as an assistant coach along with Tyler Page.
“I am thrilled to be joining coach Baldwin’s staff and the winning tradition he has established here in Waycross,” said Anderson. “Coach Baldwin is a proven winner and is someone who does things the right way. It is a great opportunity for me to learn from him and work with the talented group of student-athletes he has assembled.”
Anderson is a 2010 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he played for the Yellow Jackets for three years and served as a student assistant coach one year. During that time, the Yellow Jackets made two trips to the NCAA Tournament (2007 and 2010) and made the finals of the ACC Tournament in 2010.
Prior to his time at Georgia Tech, Anderson was a four-year starter at Oconee County High School, where he was named as a Top High School Senior in 2006 by Rivals.com. He was also selected to all-star teams at the Five-Star Basketball Camp, Elite Hoops Georgia Showcase, and Rivals.com Georgia Invitational Showcase.
During his senior year in high school, Anderson founded the L.E.A.P. Basketball Academy, which he still oversees today.
Anderson has been around basketball his whole life, most notably being the grandson of legendary Hall of Fame coach Charles “Lefty” Driesell.
“Growing up in a basketball household, my granddad’s players were always like members of my family,” Anderson said. “I am looking forward to being a part of the Swamp Fox family and working to give the people of Waycross the exciting basketball that they have come to know and love.”
Baldwin said he is excited about the addition of Anderson to his coaching staff.
“I think Ty’s experience from working and playing at Georgia Tech, and the wealth of knowledge he (draws) from his grandfather can continue to help our basketball program grow,” Baldwin said.
Although Anderson has only been in Waycross a short time, he expressed his sentiments about relocating to Waycross.
“After being in Waycross for a week, the warm welcome I have received has been the epitome of southern hospitality,” he said. “The city of Waycross has a rich history and it is exciting to be a part of the new athletic history developing at Waycross College.”
