New Swamp Foxes ready for 2011-2012 season

October 13, 2011

Eight new members of Waycross College’s men’s basketball team look to make a big contribution in 2011-2012 as the Swamp Foxes begin defense of their GCAA conference title.

Jordan Enadeghe, a guard/post player from Jonesboro High School, Jonesboro, Ga., averaged 11 points and seven rebounds while leading his team to the GHSA AAAA Final Four.  He was a second team All-Region selection and was named the Region Defensive Player of the Year.

“Jordan played in a very similar system (in Jonesboro), which means he should fit in quickly,” said Cory Baldwin, head men’s basketball coach.  “Plus, he’s a guy who plays much bigger than his size.”

Kevin Evans, a shooting guard from Groves High School, Garden City, Ga., was the team’s leading scorer last season, averaging 15 points per game.  He was an honorable mention selection to the All-Region and All-Savannah Area teams.  As a junior, Evans led Groves to a 30-2 record and a trip to the Elite Eight.

“Kevin is a very energetic young man who is a great student and a threat from the outside,” said Baldwin.

Chris Hollman, a point guard from South Cobb High School, Austell, Ga., averaged ten points per game and was the starting point guard at South Cobb for two years.

“I think (Chris) will be experienced in the system we play,” Baldwin said.

Dominique Holton, a point guard from Glynn Academy, Brunswick, Ga., was a four-year starter who scored 1,255 points in his high school career.  An All-State selection his junior year and an All-Region selection his junior and senior years, Holton was recently featured on the cover of In the Game, a regional magazine that focuses on high school athletics.

“Dominique is a scoring guard who will also bring toughness to our team,” said Baldwin.

Lydell Manigo, a guard from Windsor Forest High School, Savannah, Ga., averaged 16 points and six rebounds his senior season.  He was an All-Region selection his junior and senior years and was named the region’s Defensive Player of the Year his senior year.

“Lydell is a versatile guard who can score, defend, and rebound,” Baldwin said.  “He should fit into our style of play.”

Stan Maxwell, a guard from Madison County High School, Danielsville, Ga., led his team to back-to-back region titles.  He received many honors during his career, including the All-Region team (junior and senior years), the Athens Banner-Herald’s Player of the Week (senior year), and the All-Athens Banner-Herald Team (senior year).

“Stan is a high energy guard who is athletic and skilled,” said Baldwin.

KeShaun Mayfield, a guard from Franklin County High School, Carnesville, Ga., led his team in scoring by averaging 18.5 points per game.  He led his team to the GHSA AAA Final Four with a 26-6 record and was a four-year letter winner.

“KeShaun is a very skilled guard who should be able to play any position – from the point to small forward for us,” Baldwin said.

Robert Powell, a post player from Lowndes County High School, Valdosta, Ga., averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game his senior year.  During his junior and senior years, Powell was an All-Region selection.

“Robert is a very athletic post player who can step out and shoot the ball as well,” said Baldwin.

The Swamp Foxes will host two scrimmages before opening the regular season at home against the Martinque National Team Nov. 3.

The first scrimmage is scheduled for tonight against Middle Georgia Tech.  The second scrimmage will be Wednesday, Oct. 26 against the College of Coastal Georgia.  Both scrimmages will begin at 7 p.m. in the Waycross College gymnasium.
