Two Waycross College Swamp Foxes are among the top 150 junior college players in the southeast, according to a publication that focuses on junior college recruiting.
Adam McLeod, a 6’1” sophomore from Fairburn, Ga., and Herb Thomas, a 6’6” redshirt sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., were named to the list of Top 150 Players in the Southeast in Junior College by the Juco Journal.
McLeod played in 35 games for the Swamp Foxes during the 2010-2011 championship season and averaged seven points per game. A threat off the bench, he averaged 35 percent from the three-point line, which was seventh best in the GCAA. McLeod had a game high of 20 points against Chattahoochee Tech and scored in double digits nine different times this past season when coming off the bench.
“Adam was our spark plug last year,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “He was one of the best scorers off the bench in our conference and maybe even in the country.”
After playing in the Swamp Foxes’ 2009-2010 inaugural season, Thomas was given a developmental redshirt last season. Baldwin said Thomas took advantage of his redshirt year by improving both as a player and a student. As a result, Thomas quickly garnered a reputation among four-year coaches as someone who could succeed at the next level.
“Coaches kept asking me about Herb last season, even though he didn’t play a game,” said Baldwin. “From there, his reputation grew in the recruiting world of four-year colleges. It is an unbelievable honor for Herb to get this recognition after not playing a game last year.”
As a result of this honor, both McLeod and Thomas will play in The 2011 Juco Journal/Maximum Exposure Basketball Florida Invitational July 24 at Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla.
The Juco Journal list consists of players in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
According to the publication’s web site, Juco Journal is entering its sixth year of providing recruiting reports on junior college athletes to 25 different Division I conferences, including the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC. Numerous Division II and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) schools also receive Juco Journal reports.Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the College’s founding in 1976.
