Learning Activities

Attention Students: These activities are based on a self-teaching unit designed to help you with your interests towards college. Not all of the activities are necessary for this unit to help you be successful. However, all of them are recommended.

1. Using the Internet, find three colleges located in the University System of Georgia. Give one sentence about each one.

2. Prepare a brief report about why you want to attend college. Reports should be typed using Microsoft Word.

3. Find a partner. Choose one specific college to concentrate on. Using the Internet, locate the official name, address, phone number, and website address. Using Microsoft Word, create a business card for that college.

4. Using Microsoft Word, list the educational levels of your parents and/or siblings.

5. Using the Internet, locate the Waycross College website. List three things that you like about Waycross College.

6. In groups of 4, prepare a posterboard of things that someone could do to better help you understand the process of getting into college. Locate on the Internet an example of a college admission application. Include this on your poster.

7. Using the computer program of your choice, create a search word activity using the different terms that you associate with college. Upon completion, the class will exchange search word activities and complete.

8. In groups of 2, prepare a 4 minute commercial for the college of your choice to be given orally to the class. Cue cards should be printed using Microsoft Word for your props and reminders during your presentation. The commercial should reflect the basic activities that the college provides, as well as basic information.. Use the Internet to locate the information.

9. Using the search engine of your choice on the Internet, located the Free Federal Student Aid Report website. List three things that you must do to apply for financial aid using this site.

10. As a group lesson, the teacher will prepare a PowerPoint Presentation regarding college admission procedures from information from the students. The students will have the Powerpoint as a resource, as well as being exposed to the use of PowerPoint.

11. Using Microsoft Word and the Internet, prepare a list of 5 careers that you may be interested in pursuing.

These activities could be used in a unit focusing on the preparing students for post-secondary education.
